Waganupa

Ishi (ca, 1860 - March 25, 1916) was a member of the YAHI People. He is believed to have been the last Native American to live in the “Wild,” completely outside of European American culture. In 1911, at about 49 years old, Ishi wandered onto a ranch near Oroville, California, leaving his ancestral homeland near the foothills of the volcano (Mt. Lassen), known to the Yahi as wa ganu p’a (Center of the World).

Waganupa Brewing®, established in 2015, is a craft brewery that crafts small batches of premium artisanal beer, fresh days fresh and made entirely in Chester, CA located at the base of Mt. Lassen.

  • Among the newest additions to the brewery’s taps are:

    • Pilsner - Our perfect Pilsner is the newest and lightest beer yet providing a crisp, light, low abv beer with sweet and subtle hops. This beer has yet to be named and is awaiting votes. Come on in to enjoy a beer and cast your vote.

    • Sweat Dreams - This white beer is a classic version of what is believed to pre-date the Bavarian breweries. History suggests wheat beers date all the way back to the Sumerians in Mesopotamia known as the first recorded civilization on earth.

      This unfiltered white wheat is made with whole grains, flaked corn and roasted oats providing a deliciously balanced beer, natural fruity and perfect natural carbonation.

  • Husband-and-wife duo, the dedicated owners of Waganupa Brewery, have committed themselves to providing steady and reliable hours, creating a welcoming space where locals and visitors alike can gather, unwind, and savor the flavors of expertly crafted beer. Their passion for quality and community-driven service remains at the heart of their business, making Waganupa a staple in Lake Almanor’s growing craft beer scene.

    As Waganupa expands its operations, the team is excited to welcome two new members to the brewery family. Abby, a joyful and spirited addition, brings enthusiasm and warmth to the space, ensuring every visitor feels right at home. Ally, an aspiring real estate agent with bartending experience, joins with her own expertise in hospitality and service, making the transition seamless. The brewery continues to grow by bringing on an Event Coordinator to help facilitate event planning and activities.
